The Coming Week

Well this is for all who read, unfortunately/fortunately we are moving tommorrow and going on vacation for the following week. So I will be unable to blogg for next several weeks as we will be setting everything up and possibly switching our internet to Verison. So see ya all..

Collected Thoughts

Unfortunatly I haven't been able to post over the last several day's we have been busy with numerous activities. The biggest of which is that we are now going to be moveing into a house possibly this coming sunday. Katie and I have been looking forward to this for quite some time. Also to add to the enjoyment of moving we have family that will be out from Indiana to help us move. ------------------------- Several thoughts have been going through my mind over the last several days, one is that I encountered this website thecapranica.blogspot.com in my internet travles a few days ago. What has fustrated me about this website is the authors need to have a narrow brand of Christianity be the "truth." In one of the authors articles he bashes the United Church of Christ, (of which I am now apart of) for being open to homosexuals and because SpongeBob is a "member". For someone such as me who has spent alot of time in conservative evangelical circles and has

Wedding and Olivia

Well today we took a trip to a wedding. Everything was very nice and Olivia did extremly well she didn't fuss at all, I'll see if that comes back to haunt me tonight. The sermon at the wedding was really bad, unfortunatly the delivery of it was great so most people won't really think about it critically and will just log it away as a "nice message". I found the sermon controdictory and ultimatly self defeating. Sorry I have to get back to my daughter....

Ortega: "Man Has No Nature"

"Man has to be himself in spite of unfavorable circumstances; that means he has to make his own existence at every single moment. He is given the abstract possiblity of existing, but not the reality." Today unfortunatly I got very little opportunity to read but when I did I was able to read and excerpt from Ortega (of course dealing with existentialism). Ortega has a very nice writing style that is very understandable but also thought provoking. This quote I have above is the first two sentences of the selection. What struck me about these sentences is the reality of it. Man is the one that chooses his reality. That is he chooses who or what he is to be. Man is under the influence of countless things in his life, religion, politics, friends, and family, not to mention history in general but it is his/her choices that influences his/her reality. I am not saying that man creates his /her reality apart or separate from physical scientific reality. What I am saying is th

Paris

Well I read interestingly enough on MSNBC that the city of Paris is not going to give the key of the city to Tom Cruise. People in Paris view sciencetology as a cult and not a religion there for they are baring him from the honor of the keys. I guess I am still just conservitive enought to agree with the majority of Paris. I actually tried to read a Ron L. Hubbard novel, needless to say it was the worst science fiction that I have ever read and why someone would want to follow a "religion" based upon what Hubbard thought up is beyond me. Sciencetology overall is just silly ramblings that don't make sense. My question is that if Tom Cruise has had enough time to "examin" psychology then why hasn't he taken the time to examin his religious belifes? If psychology can be denounced as a pseuod science, what can sciencetology be classified under, or is it as the "Back in Black" segment on The Daily Show stated a few weeks ago "Sciencetology has

Existentialism part 2

In the existentialism book that I am reading I have covered Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Rilke, and Kafka today. Kierkegaard - honestly I couldn't get into Kierkegaard, suprisingly the way he was speaking reminded me of many extreamly conservativs that I know and hence pushed me away from what he was saying. I do intend to get a single book of his and reading it, its always hard reading a selection because you sometimes miss the authors intent. Nietzsche - one of the most "enjoyable" authors I read today. His writing style was down to earth and drew me in. I don't know that I agree with what he was speaking about as far as the interaction of individuals and or crowds and where the truth may lie in the two concepts. Nietzsche is now definatly on my list to read. Rilke - by far the best one I've read so far. I have nothing to complain about with him and I am definatley getting a book by him so I can understand more and better. Kafka - still don't like him

Sunday Stupor

Well here's for a rather boring sunday, as always I am unable to keep up with the news so I have no idea whats going on in the world, but for us we didn't go to church due to a late night with Olivia the little lady didn't want to sleep. We spent the afternoon walking around the mall talking with family members and feeling good about being alive. If it weren't for days like this, day's that we can do anything or nothing I don't think life would be quite as enjoyable.

Dostoevsky "Notes from the Underground"

Well I have just completed the experpt from "Notes from the Underground" If I am understanding it correctly I am to belive that Dostoevsky is telling us that there is no point for modern man to be striving toward "perfection." Or basically that there are no solutions for our existence and anytime humans get close to everyone acting in the best intrest of humanity people will act out against that just to prove that they still have "free will." I hope I am understanding this correctly because if I am it is making alot of sense. When things are going along properly man has a desire to create chaos so that man can choose as it wishes and never gain control of its unicorn. Well on to Kierkegaard next. We'll see what happens now. ------------------------------------------------------- Olivia update - she is laying on her little play mat batting the stuffed animals that hang down around. Katie was trying to read to her today but Olivia wasn't to happ

Existentialism part 1

Well I am currently reading a primer on existentialism, the first portion of the rather small book is "Notes from the Underground" by Dostoevsky. Needless to say the writing of Dostoevsky is just as lenghty and drawn out as his novels. If anyone understands the basic premis of part one of "Notes from the Underground" please help me and fill me in a bit. I think I get the gist but who knows? At the moment Dostoevsky seems to be talking about the utter depravity of humans and their vain interactions, but I'm only a few pages into it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Olivia update - She has been sleeping off and on today but has been interacting with music and with Katie and I reading to her (different books of course, Katies reading Harry Potter, I'm reading Redwall to her)

well here she is, this was taken last week...she has changed alot since then :)

LIfe events

Well it has been quite some time unfortunatly since I have been able to write anything. There are various things that have happend the largest of which is that my daughter has been born. She was born at 9:36 on the 21st weighing 8lb 11oz and was 21in long. It really was one of the most incredable experiences of my life. It has already been 13 days and I wonder how life was before she came along. Her name is Olivia Jacquline. When I got on the net today I went to progressiveink.com and read about the bombing in London (unfortunatly time to watch news has flown out the window due to Olivia). With such events happening and reflecting upon the life of my daughter things are thrown into sharp contrast. It causes me to wonder about the "meaning of life" and sharp contrast of life coming and going. I hope and pray that the world will be a safer place for my daughter. I have doubts that we as a nation are going about it in the right way, only time will tell. My thoughts and
